The World Stage Potential For Canadian Street Lifters

Canada has always had strong street lifters, as the sport in Canada was pioneered in Montreal, Canada. Street Lifting has only grown since its debut in Montreal and has made its way into Ontario. As the sport grows, there has been athletes who seem to pop out of nowhere from other disciplines to display a phenomenal performance in the sport. As it stands right now, all-time national record lifts stand above 35KG for the muscle up, above 86KG for the pull up, above 140KG for the dip, and above 220KG for the squat. These are numbers that can easily shock the world stage.

Unfortunately, Canadians often treat Street Lifting as a supplementary sport aside from their main focus that is often Power Lifting, Body Building, or just another branch of Calisthenics such as statics or freestyle. Despite having world stage level numbers, many Canadians treat Street Lifting as a complimentary sport instead of a primary one. Though the potential to be one of the strongest Street Lifting countries is there, the interest is severely lacking. With the plethora of new competitions, hopefully it creates a stronger incentive for athletes to join and for newer athletes to grab interest and turn the sport into their main focus.
